AdvisorSmith looked at data for both violent crimes (robbery, assault, rape, and murder) and property crimes (burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft) and created a “crime score” that weights severe crimes more heavily than pettty crimes. 

The study divided U.S. cities into three categories, based on population size: Small (99,999-10,000), midsize (100,00-300,000), and large (over 300,000).
