Big Bend Motorcycle Visit

On our annual Texas hill country motorcycle trip a few of our friends joined us and continued on to the edge of Big Bend national Park to the Terlingua Ghost town staying in the Candelilla house thru the http://www.bigbendholidayhotel.com/roadtorockhouse.html for a few days.

Our first full day consisted of riding river road, Texas 170, visiting Presidio, Fort Davis, Marfa, the McDonald Observatory, etc, 350 miles of motorcycle heaven. Second day being a possible rainout we took a truck into Big Bend national park for a full day of site seeing, the wife and i being the tour guides to our friends that have never been this far south before. With seeing several deer, many roadrunners, a close encounter of a rather large rattlesnake and mile and a half hike into Santa Elana canyon a tired crew we were at the end of the day.

Our 3rd and final day was again on the bikes and again in the park but this time we went to the far south, east section to the Boquillas river crossing. With passports in hand, a rowboat ride into Mexico, a Burro ride into Boquillas itself for a authentic mexican lunch and a few cervesas. A local guide gave us a tour of the “town” and then the reverse on the return with again a mule ride and rowboat trip across the Rio Grande and a couple of trinkets purchased along the way.

It was one of those “Once in a lifetime trips” that we will always remember and i am sure our northern friends felt the same.

How many people can say they Rode a boat across the Rio grande into mexico, then a Mule into town for a local bear and lunch? We can.
